Brit Simon Cowell had a checkered history even before he got to make wisecracks and snarky comments on TV. It all started in his childhood…
He bounced through the English school system from one failure to another. His father, an executive at EMI records found him a job in the mailroom, but by the time Cowell hit 30, he was a bigwig at BMG, going on to signing top talent such as 5ive and Westlife on his own label, S Records.
He is known almost world-wide for his blunt and often controversial criticisms, insults and wisecracks about contestants and their abilities. It was his role as a judge on the British reality show Pop Idol that made him a household name in the U.K, before moving onto the U.S. version, American Idol. Here he found an even larger audience. He is also the owner of the television production and music publishing house Syco.
He is getting hitched to makeup artist Mezghan Hussainy.
The British magazine New Statesman listed Simon Cowell at #41 in “The World’s 50 Most Influential Figures 2010”.
Simon Phillip Cowell was born on October 7th, 1959 in Lambeth, London, England.
