Here are listings from Yellow Pages Pre-School and Kindergarten Schools. They also have a rating system, but beware of rating systems as these are frequently very subjective. However, if a school gets consistently bad ratings, then maybe there is some truth to it.
The “Great Schools” website has a list of a majority of schools in the Los Angeles area in their article called: Top-Rated Los Angeles Public Schools, and also lots of other great information, such as parenting dilemmas, homework help and more.
And here is the The L.A. Times interactive school guide that offers test scores, population statistics and comments about California’s schools.
Sometimes you may come across the term K-12 etc. This is a shorthand way of saying from Kindergarten to 12th Grade. It is pronounced “k twelve”, “k through twelve”, or “k to twelve”. The term covers the complete spectrum of first through last grades of compulsory education.
